Round Robin test of general ventilation filters according to EN 779 standard (Indoor Air 2005 Conference)
Résumé et principaux résultats
Particulate air filters are used in HVAC installations in order to protect the installation and to maintain good indoor air quality. These filters are tested in laboratory according to EN 779 standard which has been revised in 2002. But EUROVENT WG4b group members have agreed that additional work is necessary in order to increase knowledge on annex A test procedure. The aim of the test described in annex A is to determine if the efficiency of the filter material is based on the electrostatic effect and to provide quantitative information about the influence of this effect. This is accomplished by measuring the efficiency of the filter material before and after the electrostatic effect has been eliminated. The test is based on the elimination of the electrostatic effect by means of isopropanol treatment but other discharging procedure proven to give equivalent result may be used (diesel fume, surfactant in water, etc.). A round robin test based on EN 779 annex A test procedure has been carried out in 2004. The main objective of this round robin test was to assess EN 779 annex A test procedure : do every participating labs obtain the same results ' Do the different methods (isopropanol, diesel fume, surfactant) give the same results ' Also, long term tests (natural loading of the filters) have been carried out in order to verify that the laboratory test method is representative of the real behaviour of the filters. Two different kinds of F7 bag filters (one made with electrostatically charged synthetic medium and one made with glass fiber medium ) have been tested according to EN 779 annex A test procedure and evaluated during long term tests. This paper presents the results of this round robin test and gives recommendations for further revision of EN 779 standard.
